The Film
Fallow Ground is a social realist short centred on Jane, a struggling farmer facing the threat of loneliness as her daughter prepares to leave home.
The film was shot across two farms in Yorkshire and the Peak District National Park. Building the story took several major script changes before the production reached the version Matthew Lythgoe wanted to make.

Working on Fallow Ground was by far the most rewarding experience I’ve had making a film so far, but also the most challenging.
Planning shoots on two different farms across the country was a difficult task, but it paid off massively, as we shot in two beautiful locations.
Crafting the right story was also incredibly difficult, as it took a lot of major script changes to get to the film I wanted to make. Overall, I’m delighted with how it turned out, and it’s my proudest work to date.
