Constantia Care Homes asked Red Boots to document the impact of a medication review focused on anticholinergic burden among residents in Middlesbrough.

Constantia contacted Red Boots Productions in April 2025 to help communicate the impact of an anticholinergic burden medication review carried out with residents in its Middlesbrough care homes.
The review examined residents’ prescription charts for medicines contributing to anticholinergic burden. During filming, the team documented striking reported improvements in cognition, mobility and lucidity among a number of residents following medication review.

Evelyn was receiving end-of-life care when Constantia carried out the medication review. Her subsequent improvement in cognition, mobility and lucidity became one of the most powerful stories documented during the project.
Her experience gave the film a clear human centre: a way to explain a complex medication issue through the life of one resident and the people caring for her.

As filming progressed, the scale of what the team was documenting led Red Boots to expand the project beyond Constantia.
We contacted NHS East Lancashire Trust and the Prescription Control Centre to speak with key healthcare professionals involved in the wider implementation of ACB assessment, giving the documentary both a personal story and a broader clinical context.

Red Boots completed the documentary across the summer of 2025, handling the production in-house from filming through to the finished project.
The film is planned for circulation at medical conferences across the UK, with the aim of raising awareness of anticholinergic burden and showing the human impact that medication review can have.

The ACB Project was developed to communicate a complex clinical issue through the experiences of residents, carers and healthcare professionals.
Rather than presenting the medication review as an abstract statistic, the documentary places people such as Evelyn at the centre of the story while giving space to the NHS professionals working to increase awareness of ACB assessment.
